Hello Mr. Fillmore,

I am a slave who has been in California since 1850. I was taken from my homeland and brought to America to work for free, to be beaten and spit at and treated in-humanely for my entire life. For all of my ancestors that you may or may not capture in the future, I would like you to abolish slavery from moving west. It brings pain and suffering for innocent people, and may cause an uproar among the people. I am speaking for all the people who have worked beside me, people who I have watched being beaten and whipped. This is not right. You state that no person should be infringed the right of trial by jury, but the slave owners are hanging people for very little offences.

Thank you,

A California owned slave
