I wrote these poems based on "the absolutely true diary of a part time indian"
I’m from brain
grease,
Speech impediments
Disabilities
I’m from the rez
Not wanted
I’m from a drunken
household
Abused by my own
family
I’m from a dog
murder,
My best friend before
Rowdy
I’m from protection
from my best friend
No more black eyes
I’m from best
friends, turning
Beating me
No more protection
I’m from math class,
books older than me,
Turning into anger
and frustration
I’m from suspension,
Books flying across
the room
I’m from imaginary
girls
Fantasizing
I’m from discrimination
Mostly by the whites
I’m from fights and
black eyes,
Yellow, blue and
black
I’m from toughness,
abuse and alcohol
I’m from Junior,
my best friend
I’m from anger and
rage
Lashing out on anyone
I’m from the
reservation
Also known as the rez
I’m from torn
households
Torn friendships
I’m from beating my
best friend
Anger fills me
I’m from giving up,
On myself,
On junior
Junior is a leader because he went to Rearden, a white school. He was "dying" at his old school, and he was trying to break the cycle, to over power the white people
Rowdy is a leader in his own way because he plays for the wellpinit high basketball team, and he scores all the points, and wins all the games.
